Lactose intolerance

Lactose intolerance is the inability to metabolize lactose because of the deficiency of enzyme lactase. Lactase deficiency may occur because of a congenital absence of lactase. Second type of deficiency is due to diseases that destroy small intestine along with lactase. Lactose intolerance people cannot tolerate lactose in diet. Symptoms of lactose intolerance include nausea, gas, diarrhea, abdominal bloating and pain.
Tips for lactose intolerance patients:
  • Choose lactose free milk or lactose reduced milk.
  • Before eating dairy products it is better to take lactase enzyme tablet.
  • Curds contain active cultures are easier to digest and not causing much lactose problems.
  • Hard cheeses like cheddar are low in lactose.
  • Calcium fortified drinks are good.
