Good news for those seeking the Aakash tablet. A whole two months after its official launch, the tablet is now open for all to purchase through its own website. The manufacturer, DataWind, has priced the retail version at 2500. All you need to do is fill up an online form, following which the tablet will be shipped to your residence. Delivery has been promised in under a week, with the convenience and safety of cash on delivery mode of payment.



Billed as the world's cheapest tablet, Aakash runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and comes with a 7-inch resistive touchscreen with 800x480 resolution and weighs 350 gram. The tablet has a 256MB of RAM, a 32GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports. The tablet comes with a 12-month replacement warranty and supports formats like DOC, DOCX, PDF and PPTX etc. Aakash has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. If you are too cool for the 366 MHz, Android 2.2 equipped Aakash; you might want to wait for the UbiSlate 7, which is touted to be the upgraded version of the cheap tablet. For 500 more you get a 700 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, Android 2.3, 3200 mAh battery, and GPRS connectivity, in addition to using it as a phone. The UbiSlate is pegged to be available by January-end. Going by the spec sheet, this just might be the best 500 upgrade you ever get.
