India's Top 8 Women Bankers

Women are called the best homemakers just because they are the best in managing the expenses by making proper budget for their family. Not just in a family atmosphere but they can also be the best CFOs and bankers. Here are the names of top women listed who have done marvelous job in banking sectors and have been honored for their hard work.


Chanda Kocchar, MD and CEO of ICICI:

ICICI bank is the biggest private bank in India and is the second major bank in the country. She also heads the main headquarters of ICICI bank. The under her leadership the bank have got high recognition. The award of "Best Retail Bank in India" was won by the bank in the year 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 consecutively. In the year 2002 by the Asian banker, "Excellence in retail banking award" was also bagged by them.
Chanda Kocchar has been honored with prestigious awards like "Retail Banker of the Year" by Asian Banker in the year 2004, business women of the year 2005 by economic times and rising star award for global awards 2006 by retail banker international. The fortune has also listed in the most powerful women in business regularly. In the year 2005, she was ranked 47th position, later 37th in the year 2006 and then 33rd in the year 2007. In the year 2009 Forbes ranked her 20, in "The world's 100 most powerful women" list. This year Forbes ranked her 2011.

She is honored with Padma Bhushan Award, the third highest national honor by the government of India for the year 2010 for her efforts made to improve the trade and industry.

 Naina Lal Kidwai, CEO, HSBC India:

Naina Lal Kidwai has one of the great business minds. She acquired HSBC from Niall S K Booker in the year 2006. In the year 2002 she was the Vice Chairman and the MD of, HSBC Securities and Capital Markets India. She started her career in banking with ANZ Grindlays Bank which is now taken over by standard charted bank. Later she headed the Indian operations of Morgan Stanley and left in the year 2002. Fortune magazine listed Kidwai in world's Top 50 Corporate Women from 2000-2003. She also bagged the prestigious national award, Padma shri for her best banking abilities.
Meera Sanyal, CEO, ABN Amro:

Sanyal was a corporate executive Vice president and head of services for Asia, ABN Amro. She was earlier the CFO of the bank. Initially she was working with ANZ Grindlays. She joined ABN Amro in the year 2002. In the year 2002, she became the MD of bank's BPO operations segment, ABN Amro Central Enterprise Services. She was an independent candidate in the year 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the south Mumbai constituency. She is also the president of Indian liberal group that works towards good governance in India. She was honored as a Woman Banker of the Year in the year 2006 by Indian Merchants Chamber.
Kalpana Morparia, CEO, JPMorgan Chase and Co:

Kalpana Morparia worked with ICICI Group for 33 years. In the year 2001 she was one of the board of dirctors. Afterwards she happened to be the joint managing director at ICICI Bank. Right now Morparia is a member of JPMorgan's Asia-Pacific executive committee. 
Manisha Girotra, chairperson, UBS Warburg India:

Manisha Girotra is in charge for all the investment banking activities of the group in India since December 2002. She has a practice of about 18 years in investment banking and has also labored on the privatization of Indian petro Chemicals Corporation, Tata-SIA's bid for Air India and Scottish & Newcastle's investment in the UB group. She worked for 2 years with Grindlays and for 4 years with Barclays.
Ranjana Kumar, former CEO Indian Bank:

Ranjana is the first woman CEO of nationalized bank. She took over the Indian bank, Chennai branch in the year 2000. She played a major role in increasing the revenue of loss making bank. Previously, she was the executive Director of Canara Bank, Bangalore. She started her career as a probationary officer in bank of India in the year 1966 later became the general manager. She caught the seat of senior vice president and chief executive of bank of India, supervising the New York based operations. Kumar, who made efforts in turning the below par Indian bank, is the first woman to lead NABARD in the year 2003. A present she is the vigilance commissioner in Central Vigilance Commission.

Vedika Bhandarkar, MD JPMorgan India:

She has been heading the investment banking division of JP Morgan India since 1998 and in March 2004, she was also appointed managing director of the firm. She has been into financial services for 14 years. She has made noteworthy deals like acquisition of ONGC's MRPL from AV Birla group.
H.A Daruwalla, Former MD, Central Bank of India:

Ahead of taking control as CMD of Central Bank of India, she was a Executive Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. under her management, the bank saw huge growth of 110 percent in total business from the period of 2005-2008. Daruwalla is also the deputy chairperson of Indian Bank's Association from the year 2008. She started her career as a officer in Union Bank.
